HALO-LED Air Purifier: Zero Ozone, Mercury Free, 5-Year Cell
If you've read our guide to the REME HALO, you saw us point toward the HALO-LED more than once as the newer option. This is that explanation. It's RGF's LED-based unit, and the reason it keeps coming up is that it solves the two objections people most often raise about air purifiers: ozone and mercury.
What is the HALO-LED? It's a whole-home in-duct air purifier that mounts in your existing ductwork and uses RGF's REME-LED technology to reduce airborne bacteria, viruses, odors, mold and allergens throughout the house. RGF describes it as the industry's first LED in-duct whole-home air purification system that is both mercury free and zero ozone compliant, with a cell rated to last five years.
What the HALO-LED is
Mechanically it does the same job as any RGF in-duct unit: it mounts in the supply duct near your air handler and treats the air as your system moves it, rather than sitting in one room like a portable purifier. What's inside is where it differs. RGF builds it from three technologies working together β REME-LED UV, their proven PHI-CELL, and bipolar ionization β feeding a hybrid ceramic catalyst.
The output is the same low-level airborne hydrogen peroxide the REME HALO produces, carried out on your system's airflow to act on pollutants in the room and on surfaces. The bipolar ionizers are automatic and self-cleaning, and they cause fine airborne particles to clump together so your regular filter can catch them.
What's different from the REME HALO
Four things, and they're all consequences of swapping the old UV lamp for an LED array:
- No mercury. Traditional UV lamps contain mercury. The HALO-LED's LED UV-C array doesn't, which removes a disposal and breakage concern entirely.
- Zero ozone certified. Covered in detail below β this is the headline difference.
- A cell that lasts 5 years instead of 2. Roughly 2.5 times the service life, which changes the long-term cost picture.
- It cycles with your blower. The older lamps ran constantly. The LED array runs only when your system does.
RGF also added a hybrid ceramic catalyst and an integrated airflow switch to the current generation, plus a Countdown Day Timer on the housing that tells you visually when the cell is due.
Zero ozone, explained properly
Ozone is the right question to ask about any oxidation-based air purifier, because some products on the market generate meaningful amounts of it β and ozone is a lung irritant. It's worth being precise here rather than hand-waving.
RGF states the HALO-LED is zero ozone certified and does not emit more than 0.005 ppm of ozone, verified to the UL 2998 standard. It carries EPA Registration No. 067400-FL-001 and is approved for sale in California β worth noting because California enforces the strictest ozone emission limits in the country, so clearing that bar is a meaningful signal.
The unit also carries TΓV SΓD certification and conforms to CSA C22.2 No. 250.0, UL 1598, and UL 60335-2-40. That's a deeper certification stack than most in-duct purifiers on the market carry, and it's the honest reason we recommend this one when a customer's specific concern is safety rather than price.

The 5-year cell and 7-year warranty
This is the part that matters most to your wallet over time. RGF recommends replacing the HALO-LED cell after five years. The REME HALO cell, by comparison, is rated for roughly 18,000β25,000 hours β about two years in a typical home.
So over a ten-year window you're looking at roughly one cell replacement versus four. The HALO-LED costs more up front, and for some homes the REME HALO is still the right call β but if you plan to stay in the house, the lifetime maintenance math narrows the gap considerably. The warranty backs it up at 7 years in the U.S. and Canada. The replacement cell part number is PHIC-REME-LED, and the Countdown Day Timer on the unit tells you when it's due rather than leaving you to track it.
Why it cycles with your blower
Older UV air purifiers ran their lamp continuously, whether or not the system was moving air. The HALO-LED has an integrated airflow switch and is designed to run only when your blower runs. That saves energy and β more to the point β meaningfully extends the LED module's service life, which is part of how RGF gets to a five-year cell rating.
There's an installation requirement attached to this, and it's worth knowing about. RGF's spec sheet is explicit: the unit must be wired in series with the blower so it cycles on and off with the system. That's required for compliance with current safety standards and to protect the LED module. It's a small detail that's easy to get wrong, and getting it wrong shortens the life of the part you paid extra for.
Technician insight
The wiring requirement is the thing I'd flag to any homeowner shopping this unit. Wired to constant power instead of in series with the blower, it still appears to work β the LEDs light, the timer counts down β but you're burning module life around the clock for no benefit, and you're outside the manufacturer's installation spec. Nobody notices until the cell dies early. It takes an extra few minutes to do correctly at install.

The 800β2,400 CFM range covers most residential systems on the coast, but it's worth confirming against your actual equipment rather than assuming β that's part of what a proper assessment covers.

Honestly: if budget is the deciding factor and you want a real improvement over filtration alone, the REME HALO is a solid unit and we install plenty of them. If you're specifically concerned about ozone or mercury, or you plan to stay in the home long enough for the five-year cell to pay off, the HALO-LED is the better buy.
